Delhi Capitals – Once known as Delhi Daredevils, this team is now co-owned by JSW and the GMR Group. To be honest, they haven’t been one of the strongest teams in the Indian Premier League. Even though they topped the league stage twice, they’ve never made it to the finals.

Their best performance in any IPL season is a third-place finish, which happened in 2009, 2012, 2019, and 2021. The fearless Virender Sehwag was the face of the team and its captain for the first two seasons. Later, he passed the captaincy to another Delhi player and his opening partner, Gautam Gambhir.

The first season of the Indian Premier League was quite a rollercoaster for them. They managed to strike a balance between wins and losses, making it to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, they couldn’t go further, losing to the Rajasthan Royals, who eventually won the finals and took home the title.

Unfortunately, this move did not yield the desired results, drawing criticism from fans for their consistently poor performance.

Prior to the auctions for the twelfth season of the Indian Premier League, Delhi opted to retain 14 players while parting ways with the Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan. Notable acquisitions included Colin Ingram, Ishant Sharma, and Keemo Paul, alongside Axar Patel, Sherfane Rutherford, and the versatile Hanuma Vihari. Leading up to IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals’ decision to bring on board former Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly as their official advisor proved to be a positive change compared to their lackluster performances in the preceding six seasons.
